I'm one of those lower income individuals with children. For me, this is the time of year when the Fed has to print more money to pay me.
It's sad, though, that being under-employed provides better "benefits" than my veteran status does.

i barely got anything back this year. there was a spot on turbo tax to enter new kids and the money that comes with them. for a second i thought of having children during the next year to get that money next year...

From my experience, I'll say that children are not profitable. Not in this country, anyway. (I totally went there)

Do you want to know something really strange?
You cannot pay your taxes in person at the IRS building with cash. They won't accept it. Now why would that be?

I had my grown daughter and my little granddaughter live with my this year. We calculated both ways; her claiming and me claiming the baby. Since my daughter only had a part time job for a few months and I work full time it paid for us to let me claim my granddaughter. Totally legal because they moved in in May. We split the refund. Next year it won't be so nice. My daughter will be on her feet by then and living somewhere else.
